Did Katy Perry Steal ‘Roar’ From Sara Bareilles? ‘Love Song’ Singer Speaks For The First Time

Music fans are quick to notice that Katy Perry's newly-released single, 'Roar', is very much reminiscent of the melody of 'Brave', one of the hit songs of Sara Bareilles. For this reason, many can't help but wonder if there's bad blood between the two.

Bareilles finally breaks her silence and reveals that she doesn't think her fellow pop star stole something from her: "I don't feel like anything was taken from me artistically. I wasn't the one having any problems with it. I've known Katy a long time. We are friends and she and I spoke about it. I look at it as two female artists who are releasing a message of empowerment."

Perry's jungle-themed 'Roar' currently holds the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart whereas 'Brave' got the 31st spot after the chatter.

Thirty-three-year-old Bareilles says that some fans upset her because of their behavior about the issue: "To be totally honest, I was sort of disappointed in how aggressive fans were being about it. I don't promote drama in my life and competition and stuff like that."

The singer-songwriter even joked that she and Perry would collaborate for a project to prove their friendship: "We actually talked about it. We're like, 'Should we just work on a mash-up and let everybody know we're not mad at each other?"

Bareilles is currently on tour with One Republic. She will be having a solo tour this October 6 in Boston.
