Willis McGahee To Sign With Cleveland Browns: Pass Physical, Running Back Replaces Trent Richard Following Trade To Colts

Willis McGahee to sign with Cleveland Browns as long as he passes a physical, shortly after the out-of-nowhere Trent Richardson trade to the Indianapolis Colts Wednesday.

The free agent running back will be in the backfield that only has Bobby Rainey and fullback Chris Ogbonnaya on the Cleveland Browns roster. Willis McGahee will get a chance to play right away after he signs.

With Brendon Weeden possibly not living up to the Browns' expectations, and an 0-2 start in Cleveland, the team looks to be rebuilding again after one-plus season with Richardson and Weeden. Willis Mcgahee signing with the franchise would be to fill a void for the short-term.

McGahee, who will turn 32 in October, was waived by the Denver Broncos in Juneamid health concerns. He suffered a torn MCL and fracture to his lower right leg week 10 last season. In a non-full season, he ran for 731 yards.

In the trade, Richardson was traded to the Colts for a first-round pick of the 2014 draft. The trade will give the team two picks in the first round.

Browns CEO Joe Banner said the decision to deal Richardson is in keeping with a plan to overhaul the team.

"Trent's a great player and we expect him to have success in this league," Banner told the Associated Press. "Right now, based on how we're building this team for sustainable success, we're going to be aggressive and do what it takes to assemble a team that consistently wins."

Earlier in the day, Richardson talked to Minnesota reporters on a conference all about the pressure of living up to being such a high draft pick.
