Julia Louis-Dreyfus Emmy Wins About to Tie Lucille Ball; Julia Louis-Dreyfus, James Gandolfini Movie Finally Makes Her a Movie Star?

Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Emmy nomination ties her with Lucille Ball in career Emmy nominations. If she wins this weekend, Julia Louis-Dreyfus will take home her fourth Emmy award. Julia Louis-Dreyfus will tie the First Lady of Television Emmy wins. Julia Louis-Dreyfus also has her first starring role opposite James Gandolfini in the upcoming romantic comedy “Enough Said.”

This is Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ 14th Emmy nomination for supporting or lead actress comedy awards. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was nominated for two Emmys for “Veep,” seven Emmy Awards for “Seinfeld,” and five Emmy nominations for “The New Adventures of Old Christine.” Louis-Dreyfus is the only actress to win Emmy Awards for roles on three different series, a record already. Julia Louis-Dreyfus won one for each of the series.

Jerry Seinfeld is not surprised at the Emmy wins or Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ starring role. He says "The test is always time. When your talent is thin, you get cycled through the machine fast. When your talent is deep, like hers is, you get a much longer ride — which is very obvious to everyone at this point."

Julia Louis-Dreyfus became a TV icon with her role as Elaine Benes on the 90s classic sit-com "Seinfeld." The newly released "Enough Said" pairs two TV icons in a romantic comedy, Tony Soprano and Elaine Benes, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the late James Gandolfini. "Enough Said" was written and directed by Nicole Holofcener, made "Please Give" and ''Lovely and Amazing".

Julia Louis-Dreyfus started her comic TV run on “Saturday Night Live” in 1982. Although she didn’t appear in the “Seinfeld” pilot, her Elaine Benes character began in 1989.

At this year’s Emmy Awards Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Selina Meyer character, the first first female vice president of the United States on “Veep,” pits the star against James Gandolfini’s first TV wife, Edie Falco, who is nominated for her role in “Nurse Jackie;” Laura Dern from the cancelled HBO show “Enlightened;” Lena Dunham of “Girls; Tina Fey for her role as Liz Lemon on “30 Rock”; and Amy Poehler of “Parks and Recreation.”

Last year, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Amy Poehler “accidentally” traded acceptance speeches at the Emmys. When Julia Louis-Dreyfus won, she started to read Poehler’s thank you list.

After the “gaffe,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus said “You know it is really, in fact, tremendous to be in the same category with these women who are so talented and powerful and funny and know what they’re doing ... At the same time, it’s a bit mystifying to me because people say that this show, ‘Veep’ is a comedy and yet I don’t see anything funny about me being vice president of the United States.” After she made her own thank you’s, Julia Louis-Dreyfus said “Isn’t it a shame that Amy Poehler didn’t win?”

In Julia Louis-Dreyfus new romantic comedy movie "Enough Said," she plays a masseuse who falls in love with James Gandolfini’s character. “Enough Said” is Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ first lead role in a film.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus excels in both physical and verbal comedy. In a recent interview at the Toronto International Film Festival Louis-Dreyfus said "It's a very joyful way to make a living. I kind of crave it, in a way. But it's fun to make them cry, too."

Julia Louis-Dreyfus said "I've spent the bulk of my career doing television and raising two children, who I'm still raising. So the idea of working eight, nine months on a series and then on my break going off to do another project is something I just couldn't work into my life. So I didn't, much to my agent's chagrin."

Nicole Holofcener said after the casting of Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini, she realized she set up two TV icons: "It's like Tony Soprano dating Elaine Benes."

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was a James Gandolfini fan before they worked together. She said "I thought he was sort of dreamy. James was very much like the character, Albert, that he plays in this movie: very dear, thoughtful, self-effacing kind of guy," she says, choking up. "It's lovely for his legacy and even for his family to have this performance documented because it shows him as this loving, dear man, which he was."

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been married to Saturday Night Live co-star Brad Hall for 25 years. They have two sons. But she plays a divorced woman in the new film, "There was plenty to draw on. I brought all of it."
