iPad 5 Release Date: New Generation Apple Tablet Rumored To Get Sapphire Home Buttons For Touch ID

The iPhone 5S have officially launched over a week ago and tomorrow it will officially be available in the US, UK, Australia, Japan, China, and 25 other countries. But as for the iPad 5 release date, there have been reports that Apple might unveil it together with the iPad Mini 2 later next month. But before that, let's see what the manufacture has in store for us.

According to a report by DigiTimes, the new Apple tablet will feature a Touch ID sensor as well, similar to the one sported by the iPhone 5S. In fact, it would also be placed on the home button.

In addition, the tech site also reported that 'Taiwan-based sapphire makers' may provide the goods Apple needs to place a sapphire-protected Touch ID home button on the iPad 5. But according to TechnoBuffalo, we might want to take the news with a grain of salt due to DigiTimes' inconsistent track record when it comes to smartphone rumors.

Nevertheless, the move is certainly a rather questionable one in case it is confirmed.

While touch sensors would work well for smartphones which are used more often, tablets may not enjoy the same treatment, not to mention that they are less portable. However, some consumers are wishing that the Touch ID would grace the iPad Mini 2 instead.

We will keep you posted on the developments of this rumor.
