Nokia Lumia 1020 Review, Price, Specs: Pre-Order Price Of Device In India At A High RS 49,999, Didn’t Impressed Times Of India Reviewers

Nokia Lumia 1020 review has so far been filled with accolades, at least from the Western press. But as the flagship handset of Nokia enters the Indian market, it seems to not be impressing anyone. First of, the price of the device is deemed too high and second, one of the most influential newspapers in the country didn’t give it a glowing review.

The Microsoft-owned handset brand has previously announced that the Nokia Lumia 1020 would be available in India on October 11 and though Nokia said that the pricing for the device will be disclosed on October 10, it decided to do it sooner.

The current price of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is at Rs. 49,999 via Nokia online, and PhonesReview UK noted that “many people have been shocked by the high price,” the way it did when the phone was made available in other regions.

The huge consumer market seems to not have been exempted by the astonishing price tag of the Nokia Lumia 1020, and it seems that due to the reaction and initial feedback on the price, the India release date of October 11 has been seemingly changed. There are now no definite release date for the device that is publicly disclosed by the company. PhonesReview UK is now saying that the release is now set for third week of October.

Specs of the Nokia Lumia 1020 include 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.5-inch display, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. But the key highlight of the of the device is the 41-megapixel rear camera features with Optical Image Stabilization, 6-lens optics with Xenon Flash, the Nokia Pro Camera app and Smart Camera Model feature.

Nokia Lumia 1020 ‘more camera than phone’

At the onset of its release in the Indian consumer market, the Times of India reviewed the devic and described that the Nokia Lumia 1020 is “more camera than phone.”

The attempt of the tech giant to gain market share with the new flagship, touting the 41MP sensor of Nokia’s PureView technology, while running on Windows Phone operating system, may not be a success.

The Times of India noted that while the Lumia 1020 smartphone appears to have the best camera in terms of megapixels, the rival smartphones are not that much behind either. The newspaper wrote that Samsung and Sony already having camera-centric phones in the market and that the competition is catching up.

In their extensive review, the Times of India explained that the camera capabilities of Samsung and Sony, amongst other handsets, is more than enough to capture the “simple moments of life” and if “details aren’t that important, then rivals that takes images faster provide a better option.”

The newspaper said that the camera is basically its predecessor, the Lumia 920, with a huge camera hump at the back. The device has the same specs and operating system as the previous year’s flagship but with the addition of a powerful camera. Though it has the powerful camera in the market, the design in the words of the Times, “does not bode well for the overall design of the handset.”

For one, the Nokia Lumia 1020 cannot be put flat on a table or any other surface. The huge camea hump also seems awkward to hold in the hand. The design could be better, wrote the Times, but thankfully not as bad as the Galaxy S4 Zoom.

“Nokia Lumia 1020 is a great option for those who want a camera phone more than a smartphone,” the Times of India concluded in their review.
