Google Glass Price And Release Date: No Definite 2014 Release Date For AR Lens, Adds Public Transit For October Update

The release date and price of Google Glass are two primary concerns on the wearable gadget that many have speculated about, but if there’s one thing many knew by now is it’s not arriving at a $299 price tag and nor will it be available anytime soon.

In a tweet by Google Glass communications head Chris Dale, the reported rumor by tech aficionado Robert Scoble that Best Buy would rent out a 6,000 square foot area to showcase Google Glass in its stores next year, for the said price, is untrue.

“Google Glass not coming to Best Buy in 2014…oh, and it wont’ be $299 either. #factcheck,” tweeted the Glass team member.

Best Buy, speaking with Tech Crunch neither confirmed nor denied the rumors. The retail giant already has dedicated store-within-a-store areas for selling Apple products and recently added Microsoft mini-stores in its outlets, according to Tech Crunch.

Although we neither have an exact release date for the Glass nor a price, the Glass team continues to prepare the gadget for consumer release. This month’s update of the Google Glass, which was promised to be a monthly activity since the gadget was announced, will be its biggest yet.

In a review by The Verge, public transit directions have arrived on the Glass. After installing the latest update, Google Glass Explorer Editions will now be able to select “transit” when receiving directions, according to the tech news site.

“You’ll be able to see all sorts of helpful info, like where to change trains, how far you have to walk to the bus stop and how long it should take to reach your final destination,” Google writes.

Aside from the public transport, this month’s set of significant updates includes the ability to tap to select links in notifications. The Verge noted that this is actually a feature that many Google Glass owners have been clamoring for.

Together with the monthly updates for the Glass, Google is encouraging developers to create apps for the new device. According to a report by Geek.com, Google has invited developers to Googleplex to work with the Glass team to create new Glassware apps for the device. Potential Glassware app developers are ask to sign a non-disclosure agreement with the Mountain View tech giant.
