iPad 5 Release Date October 22, Along With iPad Mini 2 At Apple Fall Event? Will They Have Fingerprint Sensors?

Apple is expected to announce the release date and launch of the next line of iPads, including the iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2, at an Apple iPad event on Tuesday, October 22. Will the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 release with Apple's new fingerprint sensor?

Forbes reports that Apple will also announce the release dates of OS X Mavericks and the high-octane Mac Pro at the event on October 22.

The invitation-only event on Tuesday, October 22 will likely debut the release of the iPad 5, which will feature a thinner, lighter design similar to the iPad mini's, as well as an improved camera, AllThingsD reports. It will likely run Apple's new 64-bit A7 chip.

The iPad Mini 2 will be upgraded with a retina display and probably feature the A7, according to AllThingsD.

There are also rumors that Apple's new iPads will feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor that recently debuted on the iPhone 5S, the website reports. However, Apple has not confirmed this.

Another detail that has not yet been released is where the event will be held. AllThingsD speculates that it will not be held at the California Theatre in San Jose, the site of the iPad Mini's unveiling in 2012.

Instead, it is more likely the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 will debut at Apple's Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino, California or the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

Another interesting thing to note: The date of Apple's fall event coincides with both Nokia's Innovation Reinvented showcase, and the retail debut of Microsoft's new Surface 2 in the United States, AllThingsD reports.

In other Apple news, Forbes reports that Apple is also working on a 13" iPad Maxi (which is actually 12.9"). Barclays analyst Ben Reitzes released an investor note yesterday that supports the rumors that the 13″ iPad Maxi could feature the new 64-bit A7 chip, which would enable the iPad Maxi tablet to be a true laptop replacement.
