Abby Wambach Gets Married To Longtime Girlfriend, Teammate, Fellow Pro Soccer Star Sarah Huffman: Leading Goal-Scorer In Men And Women Soccer History Ties The Knot

Abby Wambach gets married to longtime girlfriend, former teammate and fellow professional soccer pro Sarah Huffman.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist Abby Wambach gets married to Huffman on Saturday at the Villas at Po'ipu Kai on the island of Kauai, TMZ reported.

Some of their closest teammates and friends attended the ceremony around sunset to witness arguably the greatest women's soccer player, Abby Wambach, get married.

The couple were teammates for the Western New York Flash last season. They were also teammates with the Washington Freedom and MagicJack.

The couple never confirmed they were dating even though it was long-rumored.  Huffman confirmed she was gay when she announced in July that she was forming a partnership with Athlete Ally, an LGBT website.

"I am proud to be an athlete ally because I dream of a world full of equal opportunities and treatment," Huffman wrote in a statement on the website. "I believe that sports are a place where everybody belongs. Discrimination based upon sexual orientation, race, gender have no place in the world - nevertheless sports. I am excited to be an ally and stand up for people like me in the LGBT community."

Wambach was named the 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year. She is a five-time winner of theU.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year award, she has been a regular on the U.S. women's national soccer team since 2003. Wambach, a forward, currently stands as the highest all-time goal scorer for the national team and holds the world record for international goals for both female and male soccer players with 161 goals. 

Several members of Team USA attended the wedding, which included Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux.
