Lenovo Planning To Buy HTC? Taiwanese News Report Says

A couple of weeks ago, HTC and Beats Audio officially parted ways, and no one seemed surprised. HTC has been on the top, but it came crashing down in just two years. While it continues to deliver impressive-spec'd handsets, its grip on its market is slowly loosening. To help the Taiwanese company back on its feet, electronics manufacturer Lenovo now plans on acquiring HTC.

According to GSM Arena, a report from Taiwan's Apple Daily suggests that HTC is already undergoing talks with Lenovo officials in the acquisition of the mobile company, wherein the deal is expected to be completed during the first half of 2014.

The source says meetings and negotiations have been on-going since August, though no pricing has yet to be disclosed.

In case the acquisition pushes through, it would be a win-win situation for both companies. The struggling HTC can get more consumers brought by Lenovo users, which populate the world's largest market, China.

On the other hand, Lenovo can certainly learn a lot from HTC in terms of smartphone development and innovation. Several years back, the Chinese company acquired IBM and eventually became the largest PC maker. Now, it wants to get HTC and do the same in the smartphone industry.
