New Smartphone OS: Mozilla Polishes Platform With New Firefox OS 1.1 Update, Adaptive Search, Smart Dial, MMS Support Now Functional

Android and iOS may be the top two mobile platforms for smartphones, but that does not mean no one has the guts to follow their footsteps. While it's probably too late for new smartphone OS platforms to dethrone the two giants, having an alternative will always be welcomed in this industry.

In a report by GSM Arena, Mozilla has officially announced the new update of its Firefox OS, aptly called 1.1.

In this new version, users will be able to use an omnibox of sorts that lets them search for installed apps as well as other related information on the Internet. It is located conveniently at the top of the main homescreen.

In addition, the new OS update will now allow users to send MMS messages. Developers would also have new APIs, in order to develop notifications which would not hurt battery life too much.

The smart dial feature is now available in Firefox OS 1.1, and if you have an Android or iOS phone you will probably know how it works.

The company has also included 15 language packs to the update, which could mean they are aiming to get the OS internationally as soon as possible.
