Plants Vs. Zombies 2 Release Date: Available Later This Month? Developer Says Android Launch Happening ‘Soon’

Plants Vs. Zombies 2 is expected to launch for Android "shortly," the games developer announced this week, leaving gamers wondering if the soft launch in Australia and New Zealand points to an end-of-month release.

After play-testing in those regions, Plants vs. Zombies 2 should see a wider release in the Google Play Store, Phandroid.com reports.

PopCap seems determined to see a smooth launch for their latest title for Android, and a phased rollout allows them time to catch any issues with the implementation of the Plants vs. Zombies 2 for the platform, Phadroid.com also reports.

There are reported rumors that Apple paid Electronic Arts substantial amounts of money to delay the game's release for Android OS to boos their own sales, but the developer squashed speculation by announcing that was not the case.

The rumor does not point to an exact release date next month, but confirms that it will be available in October.

Plants Vs. Zombies 2 was released in China for Android users earlier this month, but still awaits a launch in the United States and the United Kingdom.

EA's game focuses on tower defense and allows gamers to time travel to Ancient Egypt, the Wild West and the Pirate Seas.
