Pebble Smartwatch Review, News: How This Future-Proofed Wearable Device Can Compete With Nike, Fitbit, Jawbone And Lark

According to Forbes.com, the smartwatch market has stirred up competition with new models coming from Samsung (Gear), Qualcom (Toq) and Sony (Smartwatch2). This is nothing to worry about yet for the founder and CEO of Pebble since competing within the market of health and fitness wearables’ leaders like Nike, Fitbit, Lark or Jawbone is the plan of the $150 smartwatch maker. ABI Research projects the wearable wireless devices market to be valued at $6 billion, with the wellness, sports and fitness sectors getting a great slice of the pie.

While being interviewed at the Glazed conference in San Francisco last week by FORBES, Eric Migicovsky, Pebble’s CEO, said, “There’s always been competitors. Sony Ericson has been making watches for about 5 years. Motorola launched a watch 2 years ago, called the MotoActv. Microsoft had Spot. It’s kind of weird. People are talking a lot about smartwatches but it’s mainly these of Pebble. There’s been people on this space for ever. We’re just the first people to get the right combination of technology on the one spot.”

Pebble’s orders were noted to have over 275, 000 watches as of mid-July and there have been one million apps downloaded for the watch. Its Kickstater last year raised $10 million and the device is now available at Best Buy.

In order to make Pebble smartwatches possess the same functions of those popular wristbands like Nike’s Fuel, FitBit’s Flex, Lark’s Larklife and Jawbone’s Up; Pebble I concentrating on enhancing its software and not generating another new hardware. This will help developers take advantage of the sports watch’s vibrator, compass, Bluetooth Smart, accelerometer among the rest of the features.

Migicovsky added that “There’s a ton of hardware inside Pebble. We future proofed it. Now it’s just a matter of us, it’s on our plate, we’re working to get the software and the developer experience up to par so the people can build really interesting and compelling apps,”

He stressed that “It’s very simple, it just pairs with your phone and provides notifications, alers and you can install apps. It’s a 5-7 days battery life, it lasts for the whole week. It’s totally waterproof, so it means you can wear it while swimming, running, showering… it just works and you don’t have to worry about it.” as the best thing about Pebble in comparison to its competitors.
