Malala Yousafazi, Upcoming Nobel Prize Recipient Talks About Pacifism; Leaves Jon Stewart Speechless

The 16-year-old, Malala Yousafazi, an upcoming Nobel Prize recipient who is set to attend the Nobel Peace Prize’s announcement in Friday, is a Pakistani advocate for women’s rights and access to education. She appeared last night on the Daily Show.

She has caused Jon Stewart to be speechless with her answer to one of his questions.

Malala, being unafraid to speak out despite her young age, became a Taliban gunman’s target an attempted assassination. She is an outspoken critic of the Taliban’s tactics. She survived after a Taliban fighter boarded her bus, she was 14-years-old, and pulled a trigger at her head. She became a transformative figure in human rights after her full recovery in England.

Today, she is set to receive the title of the youngest person worthy of greatest distinction for Nobel Peace.

On the show, Stewart was asking for her reaction knowing that her death is what the Taliban needs. She replied, “I started thinking about that, and I used to think that the Talib would come, and he would just kill me. But then I said, 'If he comes, what would you do Malala?' then I would reply to myself, 'Malala, just take a shoe and hit him.' But then I said, 'If you hit a Talib with your shoe, then there would be no difference between you and the Talib. You must not treat others with cruelty and that much harshly, you must fight others but through peace and through dialogue and through education.' Then I said I will tell him how important education is and that 'I even want education for your children as well.' And I will tell him, 'That's what I want to tell you, now do what you want.”
