Oliva Culpo in Legal Trouble in India; Miss Universe Wanted for 'Disrespectful' Photo Shoot at the Taj Mahal

Miss Universe Olivia Culpo is on India’s most wanted list for posing for a promotional shot at India’s Taj Mahal. Nick Jonas’ girlfriend posed for a photo shoot to promote designer shoes during a visit to India's famed landmark to love.

Miss Universe Olivia Culpo posed for photos in front of one of the wonders of the world. According to reports, Miss Universe Olivia Culpo sat at the famous “Diana Bench” while photographers snapped at her in different poses with a pair of designer shoes. In some shots Olivia Culpo wore the shoes, in some shots she sat next to the shoes, in some she was holding them.

Miss Universe Olivia Culpo violated laws prohibiting brand promotion or publicity at the world heritage site.

NK Pathak, the superintending archaeologist of the Archeological Survey of India, said “We are gathering information from the tourism police about those who were managing the visit. After we get the names, an FIR would be lodged against the agency involved in violating norms at the Taj.”

Munazzar Ali, conservation archaeologist for the ASI office at the Taj Mahal said, “Indeed, there are guidelines prohibiting branding and publicity on the Taj premises but facts related to the incident are yet to be verified.”

Officials said it was unclear how the bag of shoes would have even made it onto the Taj property, which is strictly regulated.

Authorities in India filed charges against American Miss Universe Olivia Culpo for shooting an unauthorized footwear fashion pictorial at India’s Taj Mahal. The Modern Wonder of the World’s governing body filed a police complaint.

Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, along with the fashion designer Sanjana Jon and other people on the shoot violated India’s Heritage act, according to Police Inspector Sushant Gaur.

Olivia Culpo was on a 10-day visit to India. According to the Supreme Court of India, any branding or publicity in or around the Taj Mahal is prohibited under law. According to the Hindustan Times of India the SAI says “'Sandals (high heels) of a particular brand were taken out of the bag by someone in the group. Culpo donned one of the sandals and held another in her hand, reportedly to advertise them while cameramen accompanying her shot the scene with the Taj in the background.'

The police inspector said Olivia Culpo shot a commercial without the permission of the state-run Archaeological Survey of India at the Taj Mahal on Sunday. The Archaeological Survery of India has lodged a police complaint against Miss Universe Olivia Culpo because she modeled a pair of high-heeled shoes with the Taj Mahal in the background.

If found guilty, Miss Universe Olivia Culpo can be fined $1,600 and go to jail for up to two years, according to Police Inspector Sushant Gaur.

In India, the police file a case as a first step in investigating a complaint. At the end of the investigation, the police formally charge a suspect in court.

Miss Universe Olivia Culpo visited the world famous Taj Mahal on Sunday as part of her charitable duties, but used overt advertising and product placement at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is prohibited by law.

Culpo was in India for a 10-day trip at the end of September and beginning of October, promoting a range of charitable issues that include AIDS awareness and women's empowerment.

She was crowned Miss Universe 2012 and will remain in the position until Miss Universe 2013 is crowned in November.

Olivia Culpo and Nick Jonas have been dating since reportedly first being spotted together having pizza on August 1.

Olivia Culpo told HollywoodLife.com, "I think that when people see me they don't see Miss Universe at first, and then there's always that awkward moment when they find out, and you have to think, 'This is a little uncomfortable.' I don't know if they like me or they just think it's cool so they can tell their friends that they’re talking to Miss Universe. But to me I’m still just Olivia, which I’m going to continue thinking that, instead of the title!"

Nick Jonas and Olivia Culpo met at the the 2013 Miss USA pageant, where the Jonas Brother was a co-presenter alongside Giuliana Rancic, and Culpo was in the audience. The Jonas Brothers gave a live performance. Joe Jonas had previously judged the 2012 Miss USA pageant, where the former Miss Rhode Island was first crowned.
