George Clooney And Sandra Bullock Are Only Second Choices For ‘Gravity’: Who Are The Director’s First Choices For Their Roles?

With its mind blowing effects, 'Gravity' has been hailed as the film with the strongest debut in US box office history for the month of October. The sci-fi movie earned nearly $4 million last weekend. Apart from the film's impressive story, the chemistry between its lead stars, George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, is so intense that viewers are wondering whether the two is dating off-screen.

However, Clooney and Bullock are actually second choices for the space thriller. According to Variety, Robert Downey Jr. and Angelina Jolie were originally chosen to play the lead roles.

Jolie had no choice but to withdraw herself from the project in 2010 because her team was not able to acquire a favourable deal from Warner Brothers. Other actresses who were considered for the role include 'Gossip Girl' star Blake Lively and 'Black Swan' actress Natalie Portman. In the end, it was Bullock who bagged the project.

On the other hand, even if Downey Jr. expressed enthusiasm over the project, he backed out because of scheduling conflicts with his other flicks, 'The Avengers' and 'Iron Man 3'. Fortunately, Clooney could allot a few months from his schedule to film 'Gravity'.

An insider claims that the movie executives made the correct choice for the pairing of Clooney and Bullock paved way for a blockbuster.
