Google Nexus Smartwatch Release Date: Google Gem Will Be Unveiled As Android-Powered Wearable Gadget On October 31

Nexus Smartwatch release date is rumored to be on October 31 and if the AR lens of the tech giant is the Google Glass, its wearable gadget for the wrist is the Google Gem. The latest news is consistent with The Financial Times report that Google is working on a Nexus smartwatch for consumer release.

Artem Russakovskii, co-founder of tech blog Android Police, speculated through his Google Plus that the tech giant will be releasing the device on October 31 together with the Android 4.4 KitKat. The October 31 date is also the expected launch date of the Nexus 4 successor, the Nexus 5, which is manufactured by LG.

“Google will announce a Nexus watch, codenamed Gem, likely together with the KitKat announcement,” Russakovskii wrote on his profile.

“The date I have, which, once again is about a month old, is also October 31st.”

According to the International Business Times, the Google Gem rumor surfaced in the wake of the Motorola xWatch, which is expected to be unveiled alongside the Moto X. Google seems to have decided that the smarwatch would have the Google brand instead. Phone Arena notes that in case that the Nexus Smartwatch is indeed the rumored “Google Gem,” the wearable gadget will be compatible with a wide range of Android devices.

The expected release date for the Nexus Smartwatch all point to a consistently speculated October 31 event where Google will show-off its latest Nexus devices and launch the latest iteration of its mobile OS.

Like in all rumors, “nothing is 100% until it’s officially announced,” Russakovskii has in the disclaimer of his profile.

“None of this may end up being true, though I have a good level of confidence in the sources.”
