Less than two weeks after its release on October 4, Sandra Bullock's new movie "Gravity" had already gained worldwide total sales of $120,250,000 (as of Oct. 11).  The Alfonso Cuaron film broke the record for the biggest October and autumn opening, having garnered $55,785,112 on its first weekend alone, topping the 2011 horror flick Paranormal Activity 3's figures of $52,568,183.  The 3D version of "Gravity" gained 80 percent of the film's total sales.

Bullock had been receiving rave reviews for her performance as medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone who is out on her first space mission when disaster happens.  The 'Speed' and 'Ms. Congeniality' actress  had already been acclaimed by the Hollywood Film Awards for her portrayal of the role, and will be receiving the Hollywood Best Actress Award at the Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony, scheduled on the evening of October 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Hollywood News had quoted Carlos de Abreu as saying, "We are honored to present the Hollywood Actress Award to Sandra Bullock for her outstanding work in 'Gravity'."  Abreu is the founder and executive producer of the 17th Annual Hollywood Film Awards.

He further said, "Holding the screen alone for a large part of the film, she delivers a stunning and emotionally layered performance that shows once again why she is one of Hollywood's most respected and popular actresses."

There are speculations going around that the 49-year old actress has a big chance of getting an Academy Award, with the likes of Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, and Judi Drench as probable contenders for the Best Actress spot.

This year, Bullock also starred in the commercially successful action comedy "The Heat." Released on June 28, she portrayed FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn, alongside Melissa McCarthy as Detective Shannon Mullins.  And upcoming is her project "Minions", the prequel to "Despicable Me," where she lends her voice to ambitious villain Scarlet Overkill.  The movie is set to be released on July 10, 2015.

Gravity, which also stars George Clooney as veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski, and Ed Harris as Mission Control, has been receiving rave reviews from critics and moviegoers alike, such as its 232 "Fresh" ratings from 238 critic reviews in Rotten Tomatoes (9.1 out of 10 or 97 percent Fresh).
