IU and Yang Hee Eun's Collaboration on 'Daydream' Reveals Impersonal Side of Modern Music Production

IU's new album, Modern Times, has been impressing fans around Korea and the rest of the world. The 20-year-old singer released her third full-length album on October 8 and instantly it rose to the top of several online music charts.

IU's sweet singing voice and cheerful songs help give balance to the K-Pop industry that is flooded with dance electro-pop from top name idol groups.

Modern Times contains a total of 13 tracks and features a variety of popular Korean musicians including SHINee's Jonghyun and Gain from the Brown Eyed Girls. But there is one track in particular that has won over the hearts of many fans, the collaboration between IU and legendary songstress Yang Hee Eun, "Daydream."

The track features a dreamy melody that provides an ideal platform for the two impressive female voices to really shine as they meld together in perfect harmony.

However, a recent radio program with Yang Hee Eun revealed a rather unfortunate side to modern music production practices - the two never appeared in the studio together.

During the broadcast of MBC's radio program Female Generation, Yang Hee Eun was asked about "Daydream" and listeners were shocked to hear that the veteran singer didn't even know the name of the track.

"Was the title 'Daydream'? I didn't know the title and I never saw IU," she said. "At the time, IU and I recorded the song separately."

Yang Hee Eun then explained, "The world works like this these days. Because IU's voice was in the song first, it became the lead and I just matched it."

Even though the two singers did not meet each other in the studio, many fans were surprised at how well "Daydream" turned out. It is a beautiful collaboration and stands as proof of their respective talents as musicians.

The day after the release of Modern Times, IU went to visit Yang Hee Eun with a copy of the CD where, according to LOEN Entertainment, the two listened to it together.

The producer of Female Generation reiterated this and further explained that "IU came to visit Yang Hee Eun with her CD. The atmosphere was very positive."

Now that the truth behind the making of "Daydream" has been revealed, fans are urging the two singers to take their performance live and have expressed great interest in seeing IU and Yang Hee Eun share a stage together.
