Glee Season 5 News: Cory Monteith Tribute Episode Paved Way For Astounding Increase In Television Ratings

Despite its sad atmosphere, the Cory Monteith farewell episode did something good for 'Glee's' television ratings. According to TV by the Numbers, the episode paved way for a 68 percent increase in its viewership compared to last week's episode. The third episode closed with a 2.8/8 rating.

The episode, titled 'The Quarterback', concentrates on the mourning process of the people left behind by Finn Hudson, McKinley High's beloved football athlete and glee club member. The cast offered heartfelt renditions of different hits including 'Seasons of Love', 'If I Die Young', and 'Fire and Rain'. Rachel Berry's (Lea Michele) 'To Make You Fee My Love' also intrigued viewers to tune in.

For this year, 'The Quarterback' attained the highest rating for 'Glee' among adults aged 18 to 49. When it comes to adult viewership, the episode gave an 81 percent increase in viewership and 50 percent increase in teenage viewership.

'Glee' obtained equal results with medical drama 'Grey's Anatomy'.

Many are wondering if the surge in viewership is only temporary because in the coming weeks, the show will be struggling to continue its story without the presence of one of its significant characters, Finn Hudson.

Hudson's character had to be removed after Cory Monteith's passing last July because of alcohol and substance overdose.
