Carlotta Ferlito's Racist Comment After Losing To USA Gymnastics [VIDEO] "Next Time We'll Have Our Black Skin Also So We Can Win Too"; Gymnast Issues Twitter Apology

Carlotta Ferlito's racist comment after her team's loss to USA Gymnastics has caused a furor in the gymnastics community.
In her racist comment, Carlotta Ferloti implied that black skin was the reason for Team USA's win: "Next time we'll have our skin black also so we can win, too"

Now Carlotta Ferlito has apologized for her racist comment on Twitter, saying: "I want to apologize with the Americans girls. I didn't want to sound rude or racist. I love Simone and I'm a huge fan of USA gymnastics."

"I've made a mistake, I'm not perfect, I was too nervous and I didn't think about what I was saying. I'm just a human. I'm so so sorry."

An Italian official, David Ciarelli, made things worse when he defended Carlotta Ferlito's racist comment: "Carlotta was referring to a trend in gymnastics at this moment, which is going towards a technique that opens up new chances to athletes of color (well-known for power) while penalizing the more artistic Eastern European style that allowed Russians and Romanians to dominate the sport for years."

"Why are there no black swimmers? Because their physical features don't suit the sport." Ciaralli said that black people "may not have some of the necessities to be, let's say, a field manager or a general manager" and that they aren't good swimmers because they "don't have the buoyancy."

Ciaralli also apologized for the racist comments, telling the Chicago Tribune: "Possibly in saying this, I made a mistake, and I am sorry. What I said was my thoughts, not the official thoughts of the federation. I know Carlotta. She is not racist. It was just a stupid answer, and she was joking. We had no intention of offending the United States, its gymnasts or black gymnasts."
