Jamie Foxx I Have A Dream Speech On Big Screen; Ray Charles Actor In Talks Over Portraying Martin Luther King Jr. In New Biopic

Jamie Foxx is in talks with Dreamworks and Warner Bros. to portray Martin Luther King Jr. in a biopic on the man who championed the cause of civil liberties in America.

The yet to be named movie will be directed by Oliver Stone, but nothing has been finalized yet. The movie has the support of Martin Luther King’s family, which will be an integral part of the production process.

Steven Spielberg is also on-board as co-producer and part of the production team. The ace director made historical biopics attractive again with his Oscar nominated Lincoln.

Films based on the life and times of Martin Luther King Jr. have been receiving huge impetus after the March on Washington D.C. event that was held in August 2013 to mark the 50th anniversary of the legend’s I have a Dream Speech.

At the same event, Jamie Foxx urged his colleagues and other celebrities to work for civil rights causes and work towards achieving the King’s dream. He had emphasized activism amongst entertainers and the need for being socially responsible.

“What we need to do now is the young folks pick it up now so that when we’re 87 years old, talking to the young folks, we can say it was me, Will Smith, Jay Z, Kanye, Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington, the list goes on and on,” said the Oscar winning Singer/Actor.

Neither Jamie Foxx nor Oliver Stone have been approached, reportedly, by Dreamworks or MLK family but the duo have expressed interest in doing an MLK inspired project together.

Stone and Foxx have worked together in “Any Given Sunday” that released in 1999. Oliver Stone, reportedly wants to cast Foxx as Martin Luther King Jr., a proposition that nobody will have objection to.

Other projects based on MLK’s life include Paul Greengrass’s Memphis (which was later dropped) and Ava DuVernay's Selma.
