Liam Neeson ‘Non-Stop’ [TRAILER]; Described As ‘Taken’ On A Plane, Movie Takes The Best Action Elements

After his iconic dialogue in “Taken” where he displayed exceptional poise under pressure, Liam Neeson has to keep his cool at 40,000 feet.

In his latest movie, the thrilling elements of an action movie all combine for a turbulent ride. References to “Taken” will be inevitable and MTV examines the action movie tropes the movie uses:

Plane Setting: When it is set on a plane, there's nowhere to go, which is just another way of saying that it's a confined thriller. (just like "Speed" and other plane movies)

Bad Guy In Hiding: Neeson is just doing his job during the flight when he gets a text message. Now, before you start following his example and texting during your next flight, stop. He's using a secure, Marshals-only channel. The bad guy or bad girl is somewhere on the flight with him. It could literally be anybody, but it's probably the second or third most famous person on the cast. We're looking at you, Julianne Moore.

Hostages Held At Ransom: How do you instantly crank up the suspense of a thriller? Take a bunch of people hostage. In "Non-Stop," the texting baddie is holding the entire flight for ransom until he/Julianne Moore gets money wired to an off-shores account.

Ticking Clock: That's absolutely correct! When taking a group of people hostage isn't enough, the bad buy has to threaten to kill people one-by-one in timed increments

He's Being Set Up: "Something else is going on," Neeson says in the trailer. And he's right. That's because the off-shores account the ransom money is supposed to be funneled to is in his name. That's pretty suspicious, huh?"

MTV humor aside, here’s the official synopsis: “Global action star Liam Neeson stars in NON-STOP, a suspense thriller played out at 40,000 feet in the air. During a transatlantic flight from New York City to London, U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks (Neeson) receives a series of cryptic text messages demanding that he instruct the government to transfer $150 million into an off-shore account. Until he secures the money, a passenger on his flight will be killed every 20 minutes. NON-STOP, which reunites Neeson with UNKNOWN director Jaume Collet-Serra and producer Joel Silver, co-stars Golden Globe Award winner Julianne Moore and will be released by Universal Pictures on February 21, 2014.
