‘The Walking Dead Season 4’ Premiere Breaks Series Record with 16.1 Million Total Viewers, Episode 1 Ended With A Big Bang

16.1 million viewers got zombified, as The Walking Dead Season 4 Premiere Breaks Series Record. The first episode entitled “30 Days Without an Accident” impressively garnered an 8.3 rating with 10.4 million of its viewers coming from adults with 18-49 demo.

This is actually the highest rated adult series in fall, even if you combine - Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Betrayal, The Good Wife and The Mentalist – they still don’t match The Walking Dead’s rating.

“Sincere thanks to the fans, who have welcomed The Walking Dead back for its fourth season with the highest-rated episode in the show’s history,” AMC President Charlie Collier said in a statement. "We could not be more proud of this show and everyone on both sides of the camera who work so hard to give life to this story of character, leadership and survival. It starts with series creator, writer and executive producer Robert Kirkman, show runner and executive producer Scott Gimple and the director of last night's episode (and the man behind the make-up) executive producer Greg Nicotero, their fellow executive producers and an extraordinary cast and crew who are giving their all every day. So clearly, thanks to them, the dead have never been more alive," Collier added.

The season four’s first episode introduced new faces for the series. Rick and the group are still in the penitentiary, where they seemed to be living a peaceful and calm life that is except for the undead lurking outside the prison fence. The group is still bound to fight off the zombies, the governor and now a new kind of enemy seems to be making its way to the group. There is some kind of virus in the prison it already infected Rick’s pig named violet. At the end of the episode a new character named Patrick fell off the floor in the prison’s shower, with blood all over him and turned into a red-eyed zombie.

Another thing to look forward to is The Walking Dead spin off show according to the show’s executive producer Robert Kirkman, “It’s currently, quote unquote, “in development” so there’s not really a lot to say about that. But I can say that it’s going to be awesome!”
