Blake Lively Explores Immortality In ‘The Age Of Adaline;’ Supernatural Drama Will Prove ‘Gossip Girl’ Star Is Not Just A Pretty Face

Blake Lively is considered as a big star in Hollywood, yet many still dismiss her as an unproven actress.

She received some buzz for her role in "The Town" but the film was noted for its  formidable ensemble performance and direction (co-starred with Jeremy Renner and directed by Ben Affleck).

She finally gets a chance to carry a movie on her own in "The Age Of Adaline" This project was given the greenlight a long time ago but production was stalled for various reasons. The original cast had Katherine Heigl for the lead role and the director was Gabriel Muccino.

Now that the project is definitely moving, the new director is Lee Toland Krieger, a film festival favorite whose latest Sundance entry was "Celeste and Jesse Forever."

The synopsis (from First Showing) is intriguing:  " (The film is) about a 29-year-old woman who is rendered ageless after an accident. After years of a solitary life, she heads out on and epic but isolated journey, until she meets a man who might be worth losing her immortality."

With Krieger at the helm, this is the kind of film that can bring Lively to take the next step as a lead actress to be taken seriously. Viewers can finally graduate from associating her with Gossip Girl. Krieger might bring the film to the festivals but chances are slim since Lionsgate has already set a release date.

Veteran actress Ellen Burstyn is also in the cast, probably as the aged version of Adaline. How this happens (when Adaline wasn't supposed to get older anymore) is something worth watching.
