Orson Scott Card Gay Controversy Could Ruin 'Ender's Game' Premiere: Author Defends LGBT Marrige Views, 'They Are Not Getting A True Picture Of Me'

The "Ender's Game" movie premiere is nearly upon us, but Orson Scott Card may sully its performance due to the controversy surrounding his homophobic views on gay marriage.

During an interview with Wired, "Ender's Game" author Orson Scott Card attempted to explain the separation between his gay marriage views and the movie.

"I hope that people will realize that they are not getting a true picture of me from these comments, and they're certainly not getting anything to do with 'Ender's Game,' which was written long ago and has nothing whatsoever to do with gay marriage. I'll just trust the audience to decide for themselves what the movie actually is, not what other people are saying about me," said Orson Scott Card.

"I issued an official statement. That's really all I have to say about it."

During the "Ender's Game" premiere, both director Gavin Hood and producer Roberto Orci fielded questions regarding the anti-gay views by Orson Scott Card.

"Would I prefer to be doing a movie without controversy? Yes, but I'm not in the least distressed that we are having this conversation. It is a very important conversation," said Hood.

"I am distressed by Orson's position on gay marriage. I hold the opposite view. But I loved the book."

"I think if we'd detected any of the issues surrounding the controversy in the text itself or in Gavin's script, yeah, it would have given us pause," added Orci. "That just wasn't our reality. I do think it is important when you are dealing with art to try and separate art from the artists."

And it seems Orson Scott Card will not be receiving much, if any of the profits by the movie, according to The Atlantic.

Reportedly, Orson Scott Card has already been paid the money from the "decade-old deal," and no back-end will be received.
