‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 5 Spoilers: Nina Dobrev Is ‘Excited And Sad’ For 100th Episode; Will It Feature A Flashback?

"Vampire Diaries" season 5 began production for episode 100 last week! Spoiler alert: Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley gave hints as to what fans can expect in episode 100 of "The Vampire Diaries."

Nina Dobrev, who plays both Elena Gilbert and her doppelgänger Katherine Pierce on "The Vampire Diaries," flew out to Savannah for the weekend to kick off the Savannah Film Festival, The District reports. Nina Dobrev spoke about what shooting the 100th episode means to her, and what to expect in season 5.

"You dream that it'll get to the hundredth episode and now it's actually happening and it's sort of surreal," Dobrev said. "It's an homage to the last five years and it's very reminiscent."

"I'm excited for it, excited and sad. It's a very great episode and people are going to be very fulfilled in watching because of many reasons that I can't - I really can't share," Dobrev continued.

We're wondering why Dobrev said she is "sad" about the 100th episode, but she didn't seem willing to give up any more spoilers for season 5. Will episode 100 of "The Vampire Diaries" feature a break up between some of our favorite characters? Will someone in Mystic Falls die?

We won't know until the episode airs, which probably won't be for another couple of months. Right now, "The Vampire Diaries" just aired episode 94 last Thursday.

Paul Wesley also gave a teaser spoiler about episode 100: he posted a picture on his Instagram of a horse and a carriage in a misty forest, from the set of the episode in season 5. We're speculating this means the episode of "The Vampire Diaries" will feature a flashback.

"My morning," Wesley captioned the photo.

Last week, executive producer Julie Plec wrote on her Twitter: "In about 3 hours, The Vampire Diaries starts shooting its 100th episode. Congrats to all -- cast, crew and the fandom. We can all be proud."
