Katy Perry Is A Fan Of Old-Fashioned Love Affairs: ‘Roar’ Singer Says Her Relationship With John Mayer Started With Lengthy Love Letters

While her fourth studio album 'Prism' is continuously gaining raves, Katy Perry still finds time to talk about her relationship with fellow singer John Mayer. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the pop star says that things between her and the 'Your Body is a Wonderland' singer began with love letters.

Prior to making their relationship in 2012, the two reportedly had a long courtship. According to insiders, Perry wanted to take things slow after her divorce from British actor-comedian Russell Brand. Mayer respected her decision.

The 'I Kissed a Girl' hit maker recalled how their relationship started from a summer romance: "I actually wrote it in an email one time and after I wrote it I looked - we had a long courtship before anything was public, just writing letters to each other."

Even if they were far from each other, they made sure to keep in touch. Their long-distance set-up became Perry's inspiration for her song, 'Legendary Lovers'. Its lyrics describe how Perry feels for her current beau: "Never knew karma could be so rewarding and bring me to your life. Maybe this is the beginning of something so magical tonight."

Perry previously admitted that she "stayed in bed for two weeks" after being informed by Brand that he wanted a divorce.  Nevertheless, it appears that the pop singer is already satisfied with how things are going between her and Mayer.
