‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4 Premiere Approaches, Author George R.R. Martin Wishes Fans ‘Would Stop Pressuring Me’ About Finishing Sixth Book

"Game of Thrones" season 4 premieres next spring, and as the "Game of Thrones" season 4 premiere approaches, author George R.R. Martin wishes fans would stop asking when his sixth book in the series, "The Winds of Winter," will be finished.

George R.R. Martin gave an in-depth interview with SMH, in which he says "Game of Thrones" fans should not expect the next book in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga any time soon, Hypable reports. However, he is fully aware that as "Game of Thrones" season 4 premiere approaches, which is based off the second half of book three in the series, he needs to make sure the TV show doesn't catch up to him before he finishes the next book.

According to SMH, endless analysis, critique and speculation about where the complex story of "A Song of Ice and Fire" will ultimately go cause a lot of discussion on fanboards and "Game of Thrones" sites. The most talked-about topic? When Martin will finish the series.

"It is great that so many people are eager for the next book and certainly these are the people who are paying my bills and allowing me to have a house across the street from my other house," Martin told SMH about the upcoming sixth book, "The Winds of Winter."

"But at the same time, sometimes I just wish they would stop pressuring me about it. It will be done when it's done. I'm working on it. I don't know what else I can say: I'm a slow writer, I've always been a slow writer, and these are gigantic books."

It seems Martin is not too worried about the series catching up to him. "Game of Thrones" still has two more published books to work with.

"As the show comes closer and closer, I need to go faster and faster," he admitted. "I have told them [Benioff and Weiss] some of where I am going, so I think they know the ultimate destination, but I have to not allow them to catch me."

Martin also seems to hint that the story might go on for more than the planned seven books.

"I think it will be [finished] in seven books, but I've been wrong about that before," Martin said.
