Thor The Dark World Sequel’ – Director Alan Taylor Will Not Return; Chris Hemsworth Excited With ‘Avengers Age Of Ultron’ Plot

Days before "Thor: The Dark World" will be released in North American theaters, Director Alan Taylor talks about the possibilities of a sequel.

In an interview with Screenrant, the "Game of Thrones" director talks about the exhilarating yet exhausting experience of helming a big budget Marvel Movie:

"You mean start all over again? No. It was fun and quite an adventure, but... almost 2 years - too long away from family. But I'd be willing to and eager to take on another big adventure just not go back and redo the same one. But you didn't really mean remake Thor 2, did you? [Laughs]. One of the things that's exciting and keeps us on the edge of our seats about Marvel is that they never announce what they're going to do until the last minute. Will there be a Thor 3? I certainly hope so. They'll probably wait until this one comes out before they let the world know. Thor will be back in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and I think he certainly deserves a Thor 3, but that's up to the gods at Marvel to decide. My experience with Marvel is that they are literally making it up as they go. They have a grand vision that we've been witnessing in Phase I, Phase II and Phase III, but literally, in the details, they make it up as they go - and I saw that up-close and personal when we were doing [Thor 2], when major elements were being worked out, really, in the making of the movie."

Taylor's statements were not definitive but there were some who sensed a smidge of contempt in his response. It is true that Marvel makes revisions on the fly, and that each film has to be in sync with all the other happenings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Creative overlord Joss Whedon has to run the show, and he has actually visited the 'Thor' set on more than one occasions. Whether this sat well with Alan Taylor is something we cannot determine.

Alan Taylor will not have a shortage of projects even without "Thor 3" as he is tapped to direct the Terminator reboot, which is also projected as a trilogy.

Meanwhile, "Thor" actor Chris Hemsworth is another actor without a shortage of projects. He will don the cape and raise the hammer again in "Avengers: Age of Ultron." This time, he will work with the overlord himself, Joss Whedon. Hemsworth cannot mask his anticipation:

In an interview with Hitfix: "I'm also well aware that he's one of the best writers there is and I'm more going 'What have you got for me?' and excited to see it. He seeks our advice, but for the most part he's on track."
