NBA Trade Rumors – Gay Player To New York Knicks? Changes Needed As Charles Barkley Declares Amare ‘Washed Up’

The New York Knicks are in a world of trouble. After details of their owner's tantrums became league-wide buzz, they lose their defensive anchor and possibly their most important player, Tyson Chandler.

Considering their slim options at the center position, they need some additions. Kenyon Martin is severely undersized, old and never the same after a series of injuries. He was a late addition for their playoff run to provide some quality minutes and "toughness." He is not, by any means, a starting center.

Their other center option was recently acquired Andrea Bargnani. The former first-overall pick has the height of a center, being a legit 7-footer. But that's about it. He doesn't defend, doesn't rebound and rarely posts up. Bargnani is the anti-Chandler-he could be a good complement when they play together, but no way is he capable of replacing Chandler's defensive presence.

A center option for the Knicks is Jeremy Tyler. A 7-footer who skipped college and played in Israel instead before getting drafted. He turned out to be a bust, and ended up playing in Japan. He took a last chance tryout with the Knicks, and was assigned to the D-League. The Garden team can call him up.

A possible option for the New York team is to gain some good publicity by signing Jason Collins-the first NBA player to come out of the closet. It's a good statement, and Collins is fit to play and more skilled than Tyler (based on his last performance). Why not?

Another problem for the team's frontline is Amare Stoudemire's sad deterioration. ESPN's Charles Barkley in their ESPN Radio session said: "You all in trouble with Amar'e. I like Amar'e as a person, but I don't see him doing anything in the NBA, to be honest with you. I think he has lost his skill. He lost his talent."

Should the Knicks consider a total rebuild? They should accept the reality that they are not at par with the new East elite. They have very few assets, too. Is it time to consider trading Carmelo Anthony and throw in some bad contracts to start fresh next season?
