College Basketball Recruiting – Kentucky To Repeat Phenomenal Recruitment Class? Top Point Guard Recruit Makes Shocking Choice!

While the top three recruits of the 2014 recruiting High School Recruiting Class has yet to commit to any school, Kentucky is threatening a coup once again.

The University of Kentucky Wildcats is still in the running for the two of the top three prospects. The top prospect in both ESPN and Yahoo-Rivals Prospect lists is Jahlil Okafor. Okafor is a cousin of 2004 NBA 2nd overall pick Emeka Okafor. He's just about as tall and strong (6'10", 265 lbs) and may develop into a better overall player. He might not be as touted as Andrew Wiggins this year, but he is a solid and deserving college prospect.

Okafor's main candidates are Kentucky, their rival Kansas, Baylor University and another usual suspect, Duke. Okafor still has time to make a decision and the odds of all four schools are pretty even.

The other top prospect that Kentucky is eyeing is Myles Turner. Turner is taller but thinner, and more athletic than Okafor, but he lacks strength and his game is not as polished. He has the same school list as Okafor (Duke, Kentucky, Kansas) but also has defending champion Louisville and Ohio State.

It is doubtful that both players will enter the same school, especially Kentucky. Kentucky has long committed Karl Towns Jr, a large 7'1" 7th overall prospect from the Dominican Republic. John Calipari, the silver-tongued Kentucky coach, also coaches the Dominican National team of which Towns was the youngest member. The projection is, only one of the top two will join Kentucky at most.

The biggest shocker so far has come from top point guard prospect Emmanuel Mudiay. The highest ranking prospect to commit (ESPN no. 5, Rivals no. 2) is a tall point guard at 6'5". He chose little known Southern Methodist University over Kentucky, Kansas and Baylor.

Perhaps it's because of Larry Brown, the Southern Methodist coach who also won a championship in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons in 2004. He's the only coach to win in college and the pros. He did it with Kansas in 1988.
