Saoirse Ronan Moves On From Star Wars; Next Project Is Ryan Gosling Directorial Debut, Not ‘Fantastic Four’

Saoirse Ronan has the distinction of being the only actress (so far) to confirm that she did audition for the new "Star Wars." Her next project is Ryan Gosling's directorial debut.

The young Irish star was the first, and the only actress to confirm her audition for the epic Star Wars sequel. Was it a good move?  In her interview with Indiewire, she shares how things could have been different if she kept her mouth shut.

"I don't have 'Star Wars.' I don't have the role. I just shouldn't have said anything. I just auditioned for it, like everyone else did. To pretend that you have a lightsaber in a scene is always very exciting. It would be great. But it's something that everyone's gone up for."

She did not elaborate who "everyone else" was, perhaps learning her harsh Hollywood lesson.

Saoirse has a lot of projects, though Star Wars could have been the biggest, and being part of an immortal franchise is quite a privilege. She has picked up the pieces and moved on. Her next project: the directorial debut of Ryan Gosling, "How To Catch A Monster."

The lesson of Hollywood secrecy has befallen her again when asked about the plot. But she did elaborate on her role: "I can tell you I have a pet rat and we used a rat who I fell in love with and I wish that I could have kept. He was amazing. We became very close."

What kind of film is it: "It's kind of, in a way, like if Ryan was a film, it would be this film. It's a lot of his personality; this kind of off-centered humor to it, it's very dark and twisted, and really cool. There's a bit of neon in there. There was a neon flamingo in one scene, I remember. It's pretty cool."

Ronan also denies any connection to the "Fantastic Four" project that has confirmed Michael B. Jordan in the cast.  "I only heard that rumor. I'm not signed up for 'Fantastic Four.'"

She's just stating a fact, but she's willing to join a super hero movie: "If it was the right thing."

Now that Saoirse can keep secrets, then she really does belong in a Super Hero movie.
