Pittsburgh had a season-low 20 shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Blues following the 5-1 loss to the Rangers. It has been two losses in a row for the second time this year, though the Penguins remain atop the division.
"(The Blues) are probably the best in the league playing this defensive-minded, checking game," forward Jussi Jokinen told ESPN. "We still generated enough chances to score three or four goals, but we didn't bury those chances."
Philly is at the bottom of the division, though the team is finally starting to play better hockey. Their nine goals in the back-to-back wins is their highest total in a two-game span this season.
"The first month we tried to do things when we didn't have them and now we're just keeping things simple by getting pucks deep and getting pucks out when we have to and winning puck battles along the boards," Flyers forward Matt Read told ESPN. "Those little things turn into victories."
Claude Giroux added two assists against the Senators following the game where he scored his first goal in 21 games. Some of his best numbers come against the Penguins. He has 20 points during a 10-game points streak against Pittsburgh.
