New Smartphone OS: Jolla's First Phone Powered By Sailfish OS To Hit Stores In Finland On November 27

The duel between iOS and Android is getting tiring, and with Windows Phone still far away to make some real impact, there's always an opportunity for a new smartphone OS to stun the market.

Jolla, a Finnish start-up company founded by former Nokia employees, has placed a release date for its first device that runs on Sailfish OS. According to a report by GSM Arena, the company has tweeted that the official release would be on November 27, on one of Finland's carriers.

While the platform's name is certainly catchy, it offers promising features which may sway consumers for a try, such as gesture based UI, and option to pick the apps you want to be pre-installed on the phone.

In recent news, the operating system also allows Android apps to be installed, erasing possible problems regarding poor developer support.

Several reports also say that a recent benchmark reveals that the Jolla phone can hold its own against current midrangers in the market. The device packs a 4.5" qHD (540x960) display, dual-core CPU clocked at 1.4Ghz, Snapdragon 400, and 16GB of internal memory.

Other juicy specs include LTE-support and an 8-megapixel primary camera for smartphone photography enthusiasts.

However, interested buyers would only be able to get the Jolla smartphone in Finland.
