Google Play Music Debuts on App Store at Apple; Mobile Music War Turns Up the Volume

Google Play Music is hoping to drown out the competition. The tech powerhouse just released a new music application that lets people listen to millions of songs in the Google Play Music library. Users can also upload up to 20,000 of their own songs that they can access elsewhere.

Google on launched its much-anticipated Google Play Music application that can used on Apple's iOS. The Google Play Music application is free and available in the Apple App Store. Users can stream millions of songs that are available in the Google Play Music library. The application also lets users make their own radio stations. Google Music has no limits on the times you can skip songs. This sets it apart from Apple's iTunes Radio and Pandora.

Google Music users can upload up to 20,000 to their own libraries through the Google Music cloud service.

Google first announced the Play Music app in May, expecting the service to be available over the summer. It wasn't but Google Music All Access's streaming function did go live during the summer.  Google Music All Access lets users download songs locally that they can listen to when they are away from a wireless signal. Google Music is free for 30 days on All Access and then pay $10 a month to access the streaming service.

Google hopes to match the popularity of Spotify, which reaches millions of users thanks to artists like Daft Punk. Spotify has licensed over 20 million in 28 countries. The Swedish company lists more than 6 million paying subscribers and has over 24 million users in 28 countries. The tech giant will also take on France's Deezer and Pandora, which is based in the United States. Spotify currently has the largest song library and Pandora has the most users, 70 million people use the service every month and 200 million are registered.

Google already lets users upload music in their cloud music service, Google Music, which lets people listen to as many as 20,000 purchased songs on their Android devices or on the web. The new music venture will solidify Google's position as a leader in mobile software, along with their Gmail, Google Maps and Chrome services.
