Star Wars Casting: R2D2 Confirmed for Star Wars: Episode VII; J.J. Abrams Releases Picture on Twitter

Star Wars Casting Rumors: It looks like the first performer to answer the Star Wars casting call was a short, metallic character who will look exactly like he did from the very first Star Wars movie.

R2D2 is the first character that has been confirmed to appear in Star Wars: Episode VII. J.J. Abrams took to Twitter to announce that R2D2 will be returning to the Star Wars franchise. Abrams is directing the upcoming installment and has become famous for the secrecy on the project.

The next installment of the Star Wars series will be in theaters in a little over two years, but the rumors have been running rampant. Star Wars: Episode VII gossip has it that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher will reprise their roles from the original Star Wars trilogy, but even that is only a rumor.

So J.J. Abrams threw Star Wars fans a bone by revealing the first major character who will appear in Star Wars: Episode VII. Abrams took to Twitter to release a picture of the new star, R2-D2, which leads us to believe that we’ll also see the return of C-3PO.

This isn’t the first time J.J. Abrams has cast R2D2. The bad robot made a cameo in 2009's Star Trek and its sequel Star Trek Into Darkness.
