Almost Human TV Show: J.J. Abrams Brings Sci-Fi Twist To Buddy Cop Series –‘It Might Be A Bullet That Doesn’t Shoot The Way You Expect,’ Says Abrams

Almost Human TV show debut its two-part premiere episode on Sunday and today (8 EST/PST), a buddy cop TV series set in 2048 in the dark futuristic high-tech landscapes of Los Angeles where police officers are teamed up with "robocops" to fight criminal organizations and investigate unresolved cases.

35 years into the future, the setting of the Almost Human TV show features high-tech unfamiliar looking vehicles, up to date technology.

Karl Urban will be playing the main character of Detective John Kennex, a cop with a robotized leg, who is paired with Michael Ealy, an obsolete robot cop partner named Dorian.

"We are certainly not the first show that has done cops in the future or the only show that's done cops as synthetic beings," Abrams explains. "But every series I've done, I've had people say, 'Oh it's that show but like this ...' In success, you become the benchmark for that next show that is in that genre."

J.J. Abrams is known for his unraveling twists and turns on his shows. While Almost Human TV show is a classic cop drama it is incorporated with a sci-fi twist with  and an optimistic touch, a trademark of the Abrams brand.

Those expecting Lost's mythology or the grandeur of Fringe's scientific experiments will otherwise find something new and compelling with Almost Human.

"There's definitely a mythology, but it's a cop show," J.H. Wyman, executive producer who teamed with Abrams on Fringe says."If they're not solving cases every week, what are they doing?"

Abrams brought one of his favorite actors from Star Trek films, Karl Urban and he said that he also wanted to work with Wyman again, the one responsible for bringing Almost Human to Abrams.

"We had a great experience working with him on Fringe," Abrams states, "and as this show developed, we found it was full of heart and humanity and sweetness despite a world that was often shocking and scary and a kind of cautionary tale in some cases where technology is going."

The technology of Almost Human tv show are both amazing and mesmerizing, but it can also be dangerous. Both Kennex and Dorian tries to solve cases that are unfamiliar that can involve sex bots, designer drugs and of course high-end and exotic weaponry.

"There was a time where things were simpler, things were better and things were more analog, and the irony is that he is being saved - sometimes literally and otherwise metaphorically - by this partner who isn't completely human," Abrams claims.

"The fun of the show is getting to play both of those sides and because of the characters and their stories, there is a look backwards that hopefully will make viewers also appreciate where they are now."

Almost Human TV show is available on Fox every Monday.
