According to CarterMatt.com, the official synopsis for "Mom And Dad" reads: "When Barney's father arrives at the hotel, Barney devises a plan that makes Robin very nervous. Meanwhile, Ted is convinced someone framed him by messing up a wedding-related duty."

The trailer for the episode shows Barney desperate to reunite his estranged parents, Latinos Post reports.

"My mom and dad are getting back together again," Barney says in one clip.

"They're totally in love, I know, it's amazing, I'm walking on air, my family's going to be whole again!" he says in another.

In one scene, Barney dumps a bucket of water on his mom and dad as part of a scheme to get them to undress. "Just disrobe and send up those wet clothes," he tells his parents.

Does anyone else think this episode sounds like it was inspired by "The Parent Trap"?

Meanwhile, Hollywood Hills reports that James - Barney's half-brother - argues with Barney that his father should reconcile with their mom, and not Barney's father (played by guest star John Lythgow).

The website reports that what ensues is a "frighteningly weird scenario," in which both of them dream about how they would like things to end up between their mother and respective fathers.
