According to Associated Press on November 17, the Mt Etna eruption was not dangerous enough to bring the people living in the nearby villages to evacuate.

The highest and most active volcano in Europe erupted on Saturday and ended its spectacular show on Sunday morning.

The last major eruption of Mt Etna, although it is always in a constant state of activity, was on 1992. The underground shaking that could be felt through the whole region on Friday paved way to its latest eruption on Saturday.

According to The Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Catania, the dozen tremors on Friday night followed the expulsion of lava at around 4 in the morning of Saturday. Prior to the Saturday eruption, Mt Etna erupted on Oct. 26, 2013. It forced all the airports around Sicily to close down during the whole eruption and into the early morning of Sunday.

As reported by the Italian media, the latest eruption of Mt Etna brings the number of eruption of this kind to a total of 16 this year.

Mt Etna is located in the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, between the provinces of Messina and Catania. According to Wikipedia, it lies above the convergent plate margin between the African Plate and the Eurasian Plate.

The eruptive activity of Mt Etna, which lasted for several hours, took place in a very active part of the southeast crater. The lava and gasses that resulted from the expulsion progressed up to the slope of the Valle del Bove area.
