So What’s so special about Lee Seung Hun?
Lee Seung Hun made it through the auditions without singing or dancing.
On the February 26th episode of "K-Pop Star" the final 10 members of the live auditions were revealed. Out of the contestants, the most surprising person is Lee Seung Hun.
Lee Seung Hun's singing is ordinary at best. His intonation, rhythm, musicality are average. But he doesn't have to sing to captivate the audience: he can rap his heart out and pull off an eye-catching performance.
This is why Yang Hyun suk, Park Jin Young, and BoA picked him. But many viewers think otherwise, questioning the reason for his participation in the live auditions. During the consolation round, the judges unanimously agreed that he would go onto the live auditions, praising his idea despite the lack of singing or dancing. This is exactly what sets apart K-Pop Star from other audition shows.
Typically, music audition programs aim at picking out a talented singer.
But K-Pop Star is looking for the person who has the ability to stage a good performance. Even if it's not through singing or dancing, anything works as long as they manage to touch the hearts of the audience. This is why Lee Seung Hun and Park Jung Eun, another contestant who cannot sing, have made it this far.
Such unique quality is probably due to the nature of the judges. Park Jin Young, Yang Hyun Suk, and BoA are all talented performers, hence they understand the importance of putting on a show and interacting with the audience.
Park Jin Young had said that "Had it been a different show, Lee would not have made it this far. He is the only one out of all the contestants that deserve the title 'artist'."
Yang Hyun suk lavished compliments at Lee Seung Hun during the consolation round calling him a 'genius' for being able to stage something so creative in just 30 minutes.
