Osaka to Become 2nd Mecca of Hallyu

It’s hard to miss the enthusiasm of K-pop spreading all over the world. While there are different cities that are passionate and some less than others it’s difficult to see the same response towards hallyu in Osaka as in Tokyo.

Tokyo is referred as Mecca of hallyu easy to spot posters of k-pop idol groups such as Girls’ Generation (SNSD), KARA, TVXQ and others. There are many cosmetic products endorsed by the k-pop idol groups however this is not the case in Osaka.

The largest bookstore Tsutaya in downtown Osaka which sells and rents out DVD, albums, books and others it’s easy to spot k-pop products. The location of these are sold in the most easily accessible spot throughout the 1st to 3rd floor, such as in front of escalators, front of the counter, there’s even one booth dedicated to SM products only.

Since the second half of last year the number of K-Pop idol concerts held in Osaka has continuously been rising. Several groups such as Super Junior, SHINee, and YG Family have already met several hundred thousands of fans in Osaka. The people who are in Osaka tend to like things that are familiar to them, now as Korean culture including k-pop is becoming a part of their everyday life. It’s safe to say that Osaka is becoming a 2nd Mecca of hallyu.
