Is the Day of K-Pop Ranking #1 Worldwide Getting Closer?

K-Pop that has been busy going out on world tour is now aiming to top worldwide music chart.

As K-Pop continues to rise in the ranks of music charts with albums and songs by releasing it worldwide at the same time through iTunes is now aiming for the top spot worldwide. With popular groups such as SHINee, Big Bang entering the top 10 of comprehensive chart is showing the bright future.

SHINee ranked number 8 on US iTunes Album Chart after releasing their new mini-album ‘Sherlock’ on March 19. Also Big Bang entered number 7 on US iTunes Album Chart with mini-album ‘Alive’ last February. This is a meaningful step that K-Pop has entered the comprehensive album chart taking a further step from its prior Korean artists who have distinguished themselves by entering in specific genre charts.

This is not a mere coincidence following the K-Pop boom. Big Bang has already ranked number 6 on iTunes Album Chart last year with their fourth album.

However as the groups haven’t officially started the US activities and promotions there is still a lack of good backing. It seems that the in the beginning of the album release through the ardent fans that purchase the album it ranks high on the charts. Now K-Pop is working hard to broaden such fan base.

Girls’ Generation also raised their general public awareness by signing with famous local label company Interscope and making their US TV debut on CBS talk show ‘The Late Show with David Letterman.’ Big Bang recently also continuously was featured on Billboard and Grammy homepage proving their worldwide influence.

The music industry views the next step for K-Pop is to release studio album after entering the worldwide release through iTunes. As the music buyers have already been secured through the number of fans worldwide, the next step is to release an official album in partnership with a local influential record label. Just as Girls’ Generation have released their official album ‘The Boys’ last month in France, it is the first time to set foot in the European market for the first time as a K-Pop singer. The group also released a maxi-Single in the US.

Even the local fans are waiting for an album release to hit stores. The Korean reporters that have returned from Chile shared, “The fans have shared that as official album are not exported we purchase the music through online. The original price is $25-$30 however since we purchase online the price becomes $300-$400. If the official album are distributed in the market then Korea music will spread even faster and more famous then it currently is.”

It seems that there is a large speculation that K-Pop has a high potential to succeed if K-Pop doesn’t merely stop at world tour but even release official album.

The Korean artists that are currently on their world tour artists are Super Junior, Big Bang, and BEAST.
