Katy Perry ‘Smurfs 2’ Role Is So Challenging That It Made Her Allot A Couple Of Days To Prepare; ‘Roar’ Singer Tells Smurfette’s Story In The Upcoming Sequel

Katy Perry is proud of her role in 'Smurfs 2' that she excitedly revealed how she prepared to breathe life to the animated character. Now that she's back to playing the role of Smurfette in the sequel, Katy Perry's 'Smurfs 2' role is something which inspired her to experiment with her voice.

According to the 'Roar' singer, changing her voice proved to be challenging. She likewise shared about Smurfette's story and how the character was created by Gargamel. Due to this fact, Smurfette starts wondering whether she is indeed a part of the Smurfs.

"She starts to ask herself some questions: where does she come from? Does she fit in? In a way, it's like becoming a teenager, asking the same kinds of questions we all go through when we come of age. She's really trying to figure out if she's a real Smurf. She was created by Gargamel, so there's a bit of naughtiness that's been subdued for a long, long time. But it's not about where you came from or who created you; it's what you choose to be and where you want to go in life," explained Perry.

For the returning 'Smurfs 2' actress, she allotted ample time to ensure that she could disguise her voice without sounding like she was trying too hard: "It was fun to get back into character. I blocked out a couple of days to prepare for it, because I get into a zone where I really have to turn it on. Smurfette isn't my normal voice - it's like my voice and a bag of rocks with a pinch of sugar."

The 'Unconditional' pop star likewise expressed her excitement for working with Christina Ricci, someone she truly admired both as an actress and as a person.
