Jay Z and Beyonce Celebrates His 44th With Lifestyle Change! Music's Power Couple Embarks On A 'Spiritual' Journey

Birthday boy Jay Z and wife Beyonce has just proven that you're never too old to learn new things.

To celebrate his 44th year on Dec. 4, the power couple are going on a strictly vegan diet, which means they are shunning off meat at least until Christmas. The vegan diet will last approximately 22 days.

What's the significance of the number?  Allow Jay Z to explain in on his blog Life + Times:

"Psychologists have said it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. On the 22nd day, you've found the way."

He said his "plant-based" diet is a conscious decision after he was dared by a good friend to embrace the diet. "It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought," he wrote.

Why now?

The rapper and business mogul said the decision as "spiritual." Jay Z even broke out some numerology when he associated the significance of his age and the number of days he will be embarking on the vegan breakfast diet. (If you are doing the count, that's 2+2=4).

There's also a bit of serendipity because the challenge ends on Christmas Day.

He also promised his fans to post updates of how he and his wife are doing on their vegan diet, as kept his future open-ended.

"I don't know what happens after Christmas. A semi-vegan, a full plant-based diet? Or just a spiritual and physical challenge?"

A vegan will typically exclude meat, dairy, eggs and any other animal-derived component in the food. That means no bacon or steak for the power couple. Instead, they will be mostly fruits, wheat, oats, tofu, meat substitutes and vegetables.

Advocates of veganism also swear that their diet allowed them to lose weight. Among the celebrities and personalities who shed off excess pounds due to a purely vegetarian diet are Kelly Osborne, Bill Clinton, Jason Mraz and Olivia Wilde.
