iPad Pro Rumors: The One Device That Would Be At Risk Once The 12.9" Slate Arrives Is The iPad Air

With iPad Pro rumors pouring in as the year ends, it may be a good idea to step back a little and evaluate its impact in Apple's tablet lineup once it gets released.

A lot of blogs and tech sites lately have been claiming that this is the best move for Apple as it allows the company to cover all the available price ranges from the iPad mini 16GB, up to the iPad Pro 64GB variant. However, in this scenario where a bigger tablet is available for a slight difference in price, the iPad Air could be in great danger.

Priced at $499 and $999, the 9.7" slate is good buy given its dimensions, Retina display, and overall performance. However, consumers may consider getting the rumored 12.9" iPad Pro instead which may come in at roughly $699 to $799 pricetag. What would hold off a buyer from getting a device that packs a bigger screen and more updated specs?

On the other hand, the iPad mini 2 is too small to be a replacement for a 12.9" tablet. The Retina mini and the iPad are in completely separate markets. While iPad buyers look for power in their devices, iPad mini customers get one for portability and mobility.

So while the iPad Pro seems like an excellent idea for Apple, it will soon realize that such a device would put the iPad Air at risk. We'll see how Apple takes the next steps toward a bigger tablet.
