Kindle Fire HDX 7 Review: A Restricted Platform With Limitless Possibilities, All Under A 7" Hood

Are you looking for a decent Kindle Fire HDX 7 review to help you decide whether to get Amazon's latest 7-incher or just move on either the Nexus 7, or the Retina mini? Then you're in the right place.

Launched a couple of months back, Amazon's Kindle Fire HDX is the smaller of two siblings - one of which boasts a larger 8.9 inches of screen estate.

Design

The Kindle Fire HDX's design is similar to its predecessors, and that's not a bad thing. But in a tablet competition with the likes of the iPad mini 2 and the Nexus 7 (2013), having at least some points in the aesthetics department could prove vital. However, one thing that would surely catch your attention is that it is extremely portable.

Display

The display on this tablet is not revolutionary as compared to others in the industry, but it boasts its own benefits and gorgeous angles. Packed with 1920x1200p of resolution, this is certainly more than what you can ask for given this price range.

Performance and OS

Amazon's Kindle Fire HDX 7 runs on a powerful Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 330 GPU for powerful graphics performance. This is the perfect blend of specs in this price range, though it is limited by the forked Android version. Dubbed as Fire 3.0, Amazon's version of Android limits the user to use most of Google's services, and even access to the Play Store.

Battery Life

The 7-inch slate is able to run for more than 10 hours with moderate, which is a feat considering its non-user replaceable battery. If you are going to use your tablet for regular Web browsing, a few camera shots, and video playback, the Kindle Fire HDX would easily get you through the day.

Verdict

The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7, like the 8.9 version is a stunning and compact device that you can take anywhere. Its CPU and chipset are among the best in the market and battery life is excellent. But if you can't live without access to Google's Play Store and other Google services, this one would surely disappoint as it only has access to Amazon. Otherwise, it a solid slate worth buying and recommending.
