Obama Selfie Annoyed First Lady Michelle Obama? Did The President Violate Nelson Mandela’s Funeral Etiquette?

President Barack Obama recently made headlines because of his Obama selfie. The Obama selfie was taken during Nelson Mandela's memorial service last Tuesday. In the midst of the somber service, the United States of America's president had his photograph taken with UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Denmark's  Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

The Obama selfie immediately went viral online. According to The Times, Obama violated the memorial etiquette. In some parts of the memorial, he was likewise photographed happily chatting with Thorning-Schmidt. Seated beside him was his wife Michelle who appeared unhappy.

As Obama chatted with Thorning-Schmidt, the country's First Lady, opted to remain silent. Netizens deemed the act inappropriate whereas some found the selfie normal.

It was the third time for Obama to meet Thorning-Schmidt.  They first met in February 2012 when the prime minister visited the White House. The second one took place in Stockholm during one of Obama's visit.
