Smartphone News Update: US Carriers Agree To Unlocking Devices, Special Terms Apply

This smartphone news update is certainly one of the brighter news reports you will read during the day. After being labelled as illegal in the US, phone unlocking can now be done, even with the help of the carrier.

According to a report from TechnoBuffalo, major network carriers which include AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint have agreed that it is their responsibility to unlock their subscribers' handsets given the latter have fullfilled all the conditions.

If a person is a former or current subscriber, and he was able to fully paid off the price for his handset, the carrier in question should offer the unlocking procedure automatically.

Meanwhile, for pre-paid devices, the carriers should unlock the phone after a year of purchase. Lastly, in case the customer forgets all about the unlocking procedure, the carriers themselves should be the one to remind them.

According to CTIA agency, they will implement the regulations within the next 12 months.

This is certainly great news for people who want to use their phones under different network carriers. You just have to satisfy the given requirements.
