Khloe is the third member of the Kardashians to file for divorce this year, and by the the most difficult for the public to digest. Kim Kardashian finalized her divorce in June 2013 from Kris Humphries, as momager Kis Jenner announced her divorce from Bruce in October. Are the Kardashians cursed to be alone? Of al of teh Kardashians, Kourtney was least expected to have a successful relationship. Yet she is teh only married KUWTK star to remained married in 2013!

Kim Kardashian's split was far from emotional after a shicking 72 day marriage. Plus this was one of many of Kim's stack of divorces so nobody cared all that much. But Kris's split was a little harder to take after being married to Bruce for 22 years and being the stable king and queen of all of the Kardashians. Yet, their split seems strangley amicable, and after years of rumors that their marriage wa over, it isn't such a shock to us.

But Khloe Kardashian filed for divorce this week and the news of her failed marriage is nothing short of heart breaking. Khloe and Lamar were married since 2009, and their break up is the hardest of the Kardashians splits for the public to take.

Khloe's divorce goes to show that even the tightest couples can be broken apart from substance abuse.

Khloe tried to be the dutiful wife as long as she could, until a divorce was the only way to keep her sanity.

Did Khloe make the right decision? Shouls she have filed for divorce, or continued to support her husband further?

Khloe and Lamar seemed so in love, and their friendship looked so strong that nothing could possibly get in the way of making their marriage work. But though the public doesn't know the whole truth, Lamar, 34, was obviously controlled by drugs that lead to so many secrets in their relationship. Khloe just couldn't manage the web of lies.

Lamar's extreme drug abuse proved to be too much for Khloe, 29. Though she might have fame and fortune, her love story is actually more relevant to the average American than one might think. Substance abuse breaks up most marriages because of the secrets, lies, and hidden behavior. Her divorce, though not shocking, was a long time coming.

2013 was not the first time Lamar has faced drug accusations. He was suspended in 2001 when he violated NBA drug policy twice in eight months.

He admitted at the time to smoking marijuana, telling reporters: "I hope everyone doesn't pass judgment on my mistake. I've made a couple and I may make a couple again, but hopefully they won't be as big as this one ... This will never happen again."

His former coach, Jerry Degregorio, said: "Lamar, in crisis situations, he has a tendency to want to get away and hide. He just wants to go away and hide and be by himself."

Khloe had been extremely supportive and protective of Lamar for a long time. It wasn't easy to detect his problems on Keeping up With The Kardashians, but if you look back on the episodes you can see that Lamar was falling back into his old habits.

Lamar was not showing up to any family events that he had committed to, and Khloe was becoming increasingly depressed. She became more remote on the show as well and made a lot of excuses for her husband's absences.

This became all too much for Khloe. As the Kardashian with the most personality and spunk, she most likely realized that Lamar was draining the life out of her.

The divorce is not a happy event. The couple that exchanged vows after knowing each other for only a few months, seemed well connected and communicative.

But perhaps love just isn't enough.

Maybe the reality couple can find their way back to each other. But Khloe can no longer be a crutch for the troubled NBA player.

I just hope that after he gets help, and can remain clean, he can find his way back to the Kardashian tribe.

And hopefully, in that time Khloe will not have moved on. She needs to take some time out of the playing field as well, with or without the hopes of Lamar's sobriety.
