Samsung Galaxy S4 KitKat Update: New OS Platform For Flagship Handset Arriving January; S4 Will Receive KitKat Same Time As Note 3

Samsung Galaxy S4 KitKat Update: Samsung Galaxy S4 is expected to have a new OS platform by late January or early February according to an announcement by French carrier SFR, Trusted Reviews and GSM Arena, amongst other sources report.

“The update to Android 4.4 (KitKat) should be available between late January and early February 2014 for Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3,” says a statement by SFR posted on the company’s official blog.

Trusted Reviews noted that the Android 4.4 KitKat is originally launched in the Nexus 5 and that the new OS will bring in a number of improvements to the Samsung Galaxy S4. Some of the new features include an all new Google search app integrated with the phone’s homescreen, improved Hangout functionality and background performance enhancement.

The software update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 will reportedly rollout with the update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The company’s highest-end phablet and the first companion smartphone for the Samsung Galaxy Gear is expected to also get improved features.

In a report by GSM Arena, it says that it’s possible that the timetable for the global rollout of the OS update will be similar to the timetable of the French carrier

SFR also leaked its update schedule to the Android 4.3 for both its Android-powered and Windows Phone-powered devices.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S3 and has a mini version and various variants including Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom.
